Tuition, Fees, and Scholarships

Tuition and Fees

You can find a current tuition and fee schedule on the Student Business Services (SBS) website.  Please note:

  • Tuition and fees can change each semester. Always reference the SBS website for updated information.
  • All fees are mandatory and should be included in cost estimates.
  • International students should reference the “out-of-state” tuition rates.
  • Tuition rates are different for graduate and undergraduate students.
  • International students are required to be enrolled full-time (12 credits for undergraduates, 9 credits for graduate students).
  • All international students are automatically enrolled in UMBC’s health insurance plan. To learn more about Health Insurance at UMBC, please contact Retriever Integrated Health.

Billing Information

The bill for your tuition and fees is generated when you register for classes.  You can use the billing calendar to see the schedule of when your bill will be generated, and when it is due, based on when you register each semester. If you register for classes and then cannot attend for some reason, it is important to drop the classes as soon as possible so that you do not incur a bill.

Please note that bills are only generated in your myUMBC account – you will not receive a paper bill in the mail.  To view your bill:

  • Login to your myUMBC account
  • Under the Topics menu, choose Billing and Personal Finances.
  • Click on Payments and Billing to see your bill, or click on Account Inquiry to see a live balance, which will reflect recent transactions before your actual bill is updated.

Bills can be paid in a number of ways, including those listed here on SBS’s website.

You can grant a family member or another individual access to your bill if you needed. Log in to your myUMBC account, click on Topics, then Billing and Personal Finances, then Payments and Billing, then click on “create new” under the Parent PIN section to get this set up.

Third Party Billing – If your bill is paid by an outside organization, such as a scholarship from your home government, you can learn more about connecting your financial sponsor to UMBC here.

Scholarships

Undergraduates –Freshmen applicants, (new, first-year students), are automatically considered for all general merit-based scholarships. They may also apply to UMBC Scholar Programs or the YAWH scholarship. Additional information is available on the UMBC Scholarships site.

Graduates – Graduate students can be eligible to receive funding through an Assistantship, which can be a TA (Teaching assistantship), RA (Research Assistantship), or GA (Graduate Assistantship).  The student will work in this position on campus up to 20 hours per week, and in return typically receives tuition remission, health insurance, and an annual stipend. Assistantship offers are usually given by your academic department and as each department manages this process differently, questions concerning assistantship opportunities should be directed to your department.  Occasionally, other assistantship opportunities can become available outside of departments, such as through the Graduate Student Association or other on-campus offices.  These are not advertised in a specific location, but are often included in the Graduate School’s email newsletters.  Additional information is available on the Graduate School’s website, here.

Please note that scholarships and assistantships are extremely competitive and not all students will receive these opportunities.
